Websites and downloads to avoid

Over the years i've found several types of websites that are illegitamate as well as programs

First off NEVER download anything that in the discription states "Scanned by windows antivirus" this is actually a Virus, one which complety screws up your machine; the only way to recover from said virus is to reformat (which can be difficult to achieve since the virus revokes admisitrator access and stuff)

I probably don't have to state this, but websites that "Sell" game cash are most frequently Phishing websites (Phishing being the term for acquiring personal information via the internet) Phishing isn't just credit cards, it can be email, game accounts, even your IP adress, which can be tracked down to your house.

the easiest way to determine whether or not a site/program is legitimate is to follow these steps
  1. In order to sign up you don't have to enter any personal information
  2. The download is NOT a hack, cheat, or illegitimate program (these often contain viruses)
  3. The download is certified by a recognized source (Microsoft, Adobe, Sun Microsystems, etc.)
  4. No payment is required in order to sign up or download
  5. Lastly avoid "Spoof" programs (if it looks like something isn't right, chances are you're correct)

Regular Maintenance

Just like other machines, your computer needs to be maintained properly in order to function well; There are two types of maintenance for Personal Computers or PCs
Digital Maintenance: Maintaining the digital information stored on your computer, this kind of maintenance can be done without the help of a technician (most of the time)
Physical Maintenance: Maintaining the machine itself, this is best left to people who know what they are doing
I have posted digital maintenance links (Antivirus, Malware Protection, Disc Cleanup and Defragmentation) which you may find useful
I Recommend that you have your computer physically cleaned at least once every 5-6 months, this helps ensure the fans are working properly and keeps the heat syncs remove heat properly preventing your motherboard from "frying" Always check with your technician to see whether something needs to be replaced; if your technician isn't checking to see whether or not parts function (ie fan) during routine maintenance, he isn't doing his job right.

First Things First

A lot of people don't know how to properly maintain their computers, or which sites they should go to in order to get the proper software. The purpose of this blog is to aid other users in proper maintenance of, and installing programs on, their computers; as well as basics, this blog will be helping people in issues such as what websites to avoid, which ones to go to in order to protect themselves, and most importantly answer questions people have about their computer related issues
